Mission

Develop an integrated flood control and water management information system for flood risk reduction through optimal operational use of flood control facilities such as pumps, storages facilities, surface storages and  flood early warning system for Metro Colombo. Center will also assess current and evolving future water related risks to the City from urban development as well as climate change.

Vision

Promote flood safety and livability of Metro Colombo, supporting the Megapolis development and operations through integrated spatial and temporal information management.

Center for Urban Water is developed under the Metro Colombo Urban Development Project (MCUDP). 

It will be the central organization that control the flood control facilities implemented under the MCUDP. 

Development of the monitoring, forecasting and risk assessment systems of the Center for Urban Water is completely carried out by local engineers graduated from the major universities in Sri Lanka. They also can earn a M.Sc or M.Eng degree while working at the center as external candidates from University of Moratuwa or University of Peradeniya. This scheme is facilitated through a collaborative scheme with the University of Moratuwa.
